Although I'm necroposting I gotta thank Amrinder for opening my eyes about font stack's. I'm guilty of never giving much significance to stack order.

Technically yes, they can. Flash, if I remember correctly, can embed fonts within an .swf, so you don't need to worry so much about what the end user has installed, but instead need to check if there are any possible licencing restrictions.

Since all the web safe fonts here are system fonts, they should be fine. Not so sure about the licencing of the Office fonts however.

The main argument I am making in this article is that most of the new techniques covered here do trip up in some browser/OS configurations, whereas plain old 'web safe' fonts (particularly stalwarts like Arial, Verdana and Georgia) are work fine in almost all given situations.

This is a pretty interesting article. I am a Mac user and I have to say that anything that can get round the abysmal font rendering that IE and FF generate on a PC has got the thumbs up from me. But I do wonder about how well any of these techniques would truly work across browsers and whether you are jut creating a problem whilst solving one???
