I’ve not updated the blog recently, because I’ve been busy writing elsewhere. Here are two articles that have resulted from said endeavours.

The first, called A Guide to iOS SDK for Web Designers was published by Smashing Magazine in September. This article gives a comprehensive introduction to building apps for the iPhone and iPad, for designers who have little or no programming experience.

The second, called Tap My Drawings appears in issue 19 of  Varoom!, a UK journal published by the Association of Illustrators. It’s an analysis of current illustrated book app titles and argues that the design of interactivity within given the examples interferes with a user’s engagement with content. I also come up with suggestions as to how the situation could be improved by looking at how the problem is approached in game apps.

Varoom! is an excellent publication by the way, and if you have any sort of interest in illustration or image-making generally it is well worth a look.
